Introducing Our Featured Friend: The Night Before the 100th Day of School

‘Twas the night before the 100th day
when I started to worry.
What’ll I bring into school?
I need something in a hurry.
Most kids had their 100 items ready for the party at school: 100 pencils, 100 cars, 100 jelly beans, 100 gold stars. But, every time the main character, a young boy, counted his items, he came up short . . .until he thought of something that no one else would bring: ants!
He waited patiently the next day in class while everyone had a turn during Share Time. Then he headed to the front of the room excitedly. Maybe a bit too eager, because he stepped on a marble and he and the ants went rolling! 100 ants spilled onto the classroom floor. He quickly put his lunch crumbs on the floor to direct the ants back to their farm instead of toward the celebration cake:
“Now that Share Time is over
and the last ant is in . . .
It’s time for our party.
Let the celebration begin.
Are you ready for cake?”
We all shouted, “Yes!”
Then we blew out the candles.
How many? Just guess.
